The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam has a vacant contractual position of Program Officer/adviser for communication and events. We are seeking a proactive and creative communication and events officer to enhance our communication strategies, increase our public presence, and execute impactful events aligned with our mission. The Communication and events officer will work closely with the thematic teams in the Embassy to develop and implement effective communication tactics and events.

PROGRAM OFFICER/ADVISER – COMMUNICATION & EVENTS

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare and implement the Embassy’s strategic communication plan, assess target groups and message to strengthen the Embassy’s visibility.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams to integrate communication and event activities in their line of work and ensure consistency with broader organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for the Embassy’s social media presence, ensuring consistency and engagement across various platforms.
  • Take a leading role in planning, coordinating and executing all organizational events, including receptions, visits, meetings/conferences and other events.
  • Provide internal regular media updates and improve media monitoring across the organisation.
  • Monitor, assess and refine the effectiveness of communication and event strategies.
  • Maintaining relationships with local media and journalists to promote coverage of events and key initiatives.
  • Represent the Embassy in meetings with development partners as well as other partners.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate should have:

  • Working experience (at least three years or more) in communication/media and events management.
  • Good networking skills.
  • Preferably working experience from an international working environment such as embassies, international organisations, companies or news media.
  • University education (preferably a master’s degree) in Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, or a related field, or equally relevant professional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including analytical abilities.
  • Proficient with social media management and brief report writing.
  • Experience in handling logistics for large and small-scale events, attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English, preferably experience with plain language practices. Some knowledge of French is added advantage.

  • A person who is well organized, efficient, and able to manage his/her own workload with a high level of administrative tidiness.
  • A proactive team player who can work independently and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • A person who can develop good working relationships in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Interest and understanding of news, political and social affairs.
